Grog is a type of punch, an English warming drink. The second type of punch is mulled wine, which is always made from red wine. The composition of the grog includes rum, cognac and sometimes vodka. Most often it is prepared in the cold season, and consumed hot at various festivities: New Year’s Eve, masquerades, carnival, etc.
The peculiarity of the drink lies in its pleasant, but spicy aroma of cloves and cinnamon, which are integral components of the punch. Thanks to the spicy herbs that make up grog, it is also used as a remedy for colds. You can also prepare grog at home, consider the various options for preparing this delicious drink.
How to cook grog
Regardless of what kind of grog you will cook, there are general rules for its use: the ratio of one part of alcohol (rum, cognac, vodka) should be to 4 tbsp. water. Grog is immediately prepared for several servings, the cooled drink is heated in porcelain dishes or enamel mugs. Grog is served in cups made of porcelain, glass or clay, always on a stand or saucer. Straws or teaspoons are served with a drink at the request of guests.
Grog ordinary. Boil 600ml. water, add to boiling water 2 tbsp.l. tea leaves, 4-5 tbsp.l. sugar, 3 pieces. cloves, 4 peas of allspice, 3 peas of black pepper, bay leaf, a pinch of nutmeg and 1 hour.l. cinnamon, 6 star anise seeds. Add 1 bottle of rum to the mixture, bring to a boil again and immediately remove the pan from the heat. Cover and let the drink brew for 15 minutes. Ready grog eat hot.
How to cook grog
Grog “Silter”. Heat up (do not bring to a boil)!)250 ml of water, add 500 ml of rum, 4 tbsp.l. honey and, stirring, bring to a hot state, without boiling and add the juice of two lemons. Stir the drink well, pour into glasses and serve.
Grog “Honey”. This is one of the fastest ways to make grog. Boil 150 ml of water and dissolve 10 grams of honey in it. Pour in 40 ml of cognac and the drink is ready! Serve grog with a slice of lemon.
Grog “Milky”. Prepare 100 ml of tea infusion and mix it with 100 ml of milk. Add 10 ml of sugar syrup and heat the mixture without boiling. Pour in 40 ml of cognac and stir the drink. Grog served hot.
grog brandy. One of the strongest types of this drink. To prepare it, you will need: 100 ml of cognac, 500 ml of rum, 4 tbsp.l. sugar, 1 lemon. Heat the cognac and dissolve the sugar in it. Then pour in the rum and lemon juice, mix thoroughly and bring the drink to a hot state, but not boiling. Pour into glasses and serve with a slice of lemon.
How to cook grog
Grog “Fragrant”. Boil 500 ml of water, add 2 tbsp.l. black tea, 3-4 cloves, 3 tbsp.l. sugar, 3 allspice and 3 black peppercorns, 5 star anise seeds, bay leaf, a little cinnamon and nutmeg. Stir the mixture and pour in a bottle of rum. Next, carefully monitor the drink: a few moments before boiling, the pan must be removed from the heat and covered with a lid. Let the drink brew for 15 minutes and the fragrant grog is ready!
Grog can also be served cold. One of the quick recipes for making such a drink is as follows (for 1 serving):
Grog “Canadian”. Take a tea glass and mix in it 40 ml of Canadian whiskey, juice of half a lemon and 3 tsp.l. maple syrup. Add 100 ml of water and mix thoroughly. Serve with a lemon wedge on the rim of the glass.
