How to cook mincemeat

If you need to prepare a tasty and original dish that everyone will like in a short period of time, then it is quite simple to do it. Especially if you can find salted herring, onions and potatoes in your refrigerator. You may be outraged: “What is unusual in the familiar potatoes with herring?! And you can’t serve such a dish on the table to guests!» But no, we will cook an interesting, and most importantly, delicious dish called “Forshmak”. It’s not a shame to serve it as a snack on the table and it will go with a bang for breakfast with sandwiches. However, it is worth noting that if you are on a diet, you better give up this dish, because it is quite high in calories. For lovers of history, we note that this dish is a representative of Jewish cuisine, and if we translate the word “Forshmak” from German, we get “Anticipation”.

So what do we do with these products:

Make sure you have them in your fridge.

Salted fatty herring is peeled and cut into pieces. For those who do not like to clean herring, already peeled fillets can be an alternative. Ideally, the sliced ​​​​pieces should resemble squares with a side of 1 centimeter.

Finely chop the onion. About 200 g of product will be enough. Fry it in a large amount of oil, both vegetable and olive will do, until it becomes a pleasant golden color.

At the same time (in order not to lose precious time) boil potatoes in the amount of 500 g. We cook not in the usual way, but as follows: potatoes are lowered into already boiling water and boiled there for 20 minutes. After that, we take it out, clean it and rub it on a coarse grater.

Add the fried onions to the grated potatoes and carefully, but gently, mix it all up. If desired, you can add a little salt, but remember that the herring is salty, so do not be too zealous.

The next step is to add herring to the resulting mass. Again, mix everything thoroughly.

The resulting mass that resembles a salad, and there is our finished dish-“Forshmak”.

Then we proceed according to our own will. You can just eat, or you can make small sandwiches by spreading the mass on bread. You can cut it into triangles, neat squares, circles or give it a different shape. We decorate this case with herbs, olives or black olives. Now it’s not a shame to serve such a dish on the table.
